Book Reading & Discussion with Shelley Briggs Callahan, author The House of Life, and Dick and Barb Hammond, the focus of The House of Life!

Meet Dick and Barb Hammond, the Founders of Friends of the Children of Haiti, and the focus of local author Shelley Briggs Callahan's book The House of Life (Chop Suey Books Books 2016).

The Hammonds started working in Haiti more than 30 years ago, which led to them to build a medical clinic in the country's sud-est region in the early 2000s. The House of Life tells their remarkable story of overcoming challenges to bring healthcare to some of the world's most impoverished people.

Callahan is the Director of Development at Children Incorporated, a Richmond-based nonprofit organization that assists children all over the world. She has traveled the globe reporting on the burden of poverty and has been a volunteer with Friends of the Children of Haiti at their medical clinic since 2011. The House of Life is her first book.

Dick Hammond will speak about his early experiences in Haiti in the 70's and 80's, and Callahan will read from her book. Free and open to the public.
